Safeguarding & DBS policy
Last updated 21 May 2026
We take homeowner safety seriously. This page sets out the checks we run on Verified and Featured tradespeople, the additional standards for work in vulnerable households, and how to raise a concern.
1. Tiers of verification
Every listing falls into one of three tiers:
- Public listing — sourced from Google Places. Not claimed, not verified. Shown for discoverability only.
- Verified — claimed and identity-verified. We check a government-issued ID, public liability insurance, and trading address. Verified badge is renewed annually.
- Featured — Verified plus paid placement. Featured businesses additionally evidence trade-specific certification (e.g. Gas Safe, NICEIC, RECC) and the certifications are re-checked at renewal. Lapsed certifications must be removed within 14 days.
2. DBS checks for vulnerable households
Domifyr offers an opt-in “DBS-checked” badge for tradespeople who work in homes with elderly residents, children, or adults at risk. To qualify:
- The named operative holds an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, dated within the last 12 months, or is registered on the DBS Update Service.
- Multi-operative businesses must evidence Enhanced DBS for every operative who would attend the address. We do not award the badge to companies who can only evidence checks for some staff.
- Where the work is requested through one of our council / housing-association referral partners, the DBS-checked badge is required, not optional.
3. Insurance requirements
- Verified and Featured tradespeople must hold a minimum of £2m public liability insurance. Certificates are checked at sign-up and annually.
- Businesses employing operatives must also evidence Employers' Liability of at least £5m as required by the Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969.
- Where work falls under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, the principal contractor is responsible for discharging those duties — Domifyr does not assume them.
4. Trade-specific certifications we verify
- Gas work — Gas Safe Register number, cross-checked against the Gas Safe public register.
- Electrical work — NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA or STROMA Part P registration.
- Renewables & heat pumps — MCS certified installer status; RECC consumer-code membership for solar / heat.
- Oil heating — OFTEC registration.
- Asbestos — HSE licence or, for non-licensed work, UKATA / IATP training certificate dated within 12 months.
- Working at height > 6m — IPAF / PASMA card for the operative on site.
5. Reviews and reporting
Reviews are sourced from Google and from homeowners we've confirmed used the business through our quote flow. We do not edit reviews to make a business look better. We do remove reviews that:
- contain personal data (full names, addresses, vehicle plates);
- are demonstrably from a competitor or non-customer;
- contain unlawful content (threats, discrimination, defamation).
Decisions to remove a review are recorded. Businesses can appeal a removal decision. Reviewers can appeal a refusal to remove.
6. Reporting a concern
If you've had a poor experience, suspect fraudulent activity, or believe a tradesperson is operating without required certifications, contact us:
- General concerns: trust@domifyr.com
- Safeguarding (vulnerable adult / child): safeguarding@domifyr.com — monitored on business days, with an on-call rota for urgent reports.
- Immediate danger: always call 999 first. We will cooperate with any police investigation.
We aim to acknowledge all safeguarding reports within one working day and to confirm an outcome within ten working days. Where a credible report relates to a Featured listing, we suspend the listing pending investigation.
7. What we don't do
Domifyr is a directory and lead-routing service. We do not contract to perform the work — the contract is between you and the tradesperson. We do not act as a regulator and we do not replace statutory bodies (Gas Safe, HSE, Trading Standards, etc.). Where a statutory body is the right route, we will tell you.
8. Changes to this policy
We'll update this page as the policy evolves and as our checks get stricter. Material changes are flagged at the top for 30 days.
