Safety, and checking a tradesperson yourself

Last updated 16 August 2026

This page is honest about what Domifyr checks — which today is very little — and gives you the checks worth doing yourself before letting anyone into your home. That guidance matters most where the household includes children, elderly residents or adults at risk.

1. What Domifyr does and does not check

Listings on Domifyr are compiled from public Google Places data. Ratings and review counts are Google's, collected by Google — we display them and do not alter them. We do not currently verify identity, inspect insurance documents, or run background checks on any listed business. Where a listing is paid (Featured), it is labelled as paid placement; a Featured label is not a safety check either.

2. Checks worth doing before you book

3. DBS checks and vulnerable households

Domifyr does not run or hold DBS checks. If the work is in a home with children, elderly residents or adults at risk, you may ask the tradesperson whether the attending operative holds an Enhanced DBS check — they can show a certificate or their status on the DBS Update Service. A tradesperson is not legally required to hold one for general domestic work, but for regular access to a vulnerable person's home it is a reasonable thing to ask, and arranging to be present (or have someone present) during visits is always sensible.

4. What Domifyr is

Domifyr is a directory and lead-routing service. We do not contract to perform the work — the contract is between you and the tradesperson. We do not act as a regulator and we do not replace statutory bodies (Gas Safe, HSE, Trading Standards). Where a statutory body is the right route, we will tell you.

5. Reporting a concern

If something about a listing looks wrong — a fake review pattern, a business claiming credentials it does not hold, or conduct that worries you — email support@domifyr.com. For gas safety emergencies call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999; for crimes in progress call 999.

6. Changes to this page

If Domifyr introduces real verification — identity, insurance or DBS programmes — this page will describe them with dates and specifics at that time. It will not describe them before they exist.
